Background of the Study
Artificial Intelligence-powered chatbots have gained popularity in education as a tool for enhancing teaching and learning experiences. These chatbots provide instant assistance to students by answering questions, offering explanations, and supporting various learning activities (Alhassan & Suleiman, 2024). In Ilorin East Local Government Area, Kwara State, secondary schools have started to implement AI-based chatbots to support teaching. These chatbots are designed to assist both students and teachers by providing personalized learning experiences and acting as a supplemental educational resource.
However, while AI-based chatbots have the potential to revolutionize teaching methods, their implementation and optimization in Ilorin East remain relatively underdeveloped. Challenges such as limited access to technology, insufficient teacher training, and system customization hinder their full effectiveness. Optimizing these chatbots for local contexts can enhance their potential and improve learning outcomes.
Statement of the Problem
The use of AI-based chatbots in secondary schools in Ilorin East has not yet reached its full potential. Despite their ability to assist students with personalized learning, challenges such as limited access to technology and inadequate customization of the chatbot systems have hampered their effectiveness. This study aims to optimize AI-based chatbots for teaching assistance in secondary schools in Ilorin East, addressing these issues and improving the system's performance and relevance.
